Heloisa Warren graduated in Law at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, Brazil, in 2018, and is a Lawyer member of the Brazilian Bar Association since 2019, with four years of professional experience as a Legal Assistant in Civil Litigation concerning conflicts of Public Law. As an LL.M. Student in the field of Environmental Law at the University of Lisbon since October 2020, she joined the Fridtjof Nansen Institute during the first semester of 2022 as a Legal Research Intern through the Erasmus+ Programme, with her research focusing on the fields of International Environmental Law and the Law of the Sea. 

Currently living in the Azores Archipelago, Heloisa is particularly passionate about the marine environment due to its beauty and the well-being it provides, especially for islanders and coastal communities around the world, and is particularly interested in the ocean’s capacity of restraining human-induced climate change and its side effects, as well as furnishing means and resources to support sustainable development and livelihoods of vulnerable developing nations.  

She believes that good, inclusive and transparent ocean governance, by means of appropriate legal and political measures, can provide small island developing States with the resources and income needed to face the many challenges brought about by climate change, and to guide them through an environment-friendly and sustainable development path, ensuring the continuance of the benefits that nature can provide for the current and future generations.
